Senior Material Artist
Intrepid Studios is looking for an experienced Senior Material Artist to join our team of talented developers working on the Ashes of Creation MMO franchise! If you are a self-driven, passionate developer, looking for a highly collaborative and creative environment, then this position is for you!
Responsibilities:
- Working and collaborating as part of the environment art team to create engaging and appealing environment textures and materials for our upcoming Ashes of Creation MMO franchise
- Create AAA game environment quality assets and textures in line with the project's visual aesthetic and technical direction (references, documents, project meetings, etc.)
- Create physically based Materials/Textures for use with props, environments, and characters
- Integrate assets and textures created into the game engine’s pipeline, as well as using the in-game engine tools to support these assets in production (Material Editor, Asset Composer, Texture Compression Settings, Performance Tools, etc)
- Verify the quality of their work once imported into the game, and make improvements when necessary
- Assist in material library creation and maintaining material pipelines
- Collaborate with other artists to create and integrate assets into a visually consistent and highly immersive world
- Match established art styles while helping improve visual direction
- Use specific project tools and relevant content creation software to achieve best results and meet specified scheduling deadlines
- Take constructive feedback and integrate those changes effectively
- Work with environment lead to determine the environment’s assets required based on pre-created concepts, project lead’s direction, design team input, and adjust the work accordingly
- Understand and apply modern game industry graphic principles
- Schedule and detail oriented
- Mentoring team members and providing input to nurture and expand their skills and help them grow within the company
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience creating textures and materials for video games
- Portfolio demonstrating a wide variety of materials using both procedural and 3d sculpted techniques
- Portfolio demonstrating tiled textures and 0-1 UV mapped assets. Assets must show strong attention to detail focusing on believability and overall esthetic composition
- Solid understanding of PBR standards and surface/light interactions
- Strong foundation knowledge in traditional arts
- Experience creating 3D art for a game project or title
- Able to use 3D and/or procedural techniques to create high-quality materials within production timelines
- Expert knowledge in Substance Designer / Painter / and/or equivalent software
- Strong knowledge in UE4
- Strong knowledge of Maya and/or another 3D software package
- Strong knowledge of Zbrush modeling
- Solid understanding of color theory and be able to create balanced and appealing color palettes
- Self-motivated, driven, with excellent communication skills and a team-player attitude
- A willingness to mentor our growing team of artist
Additional Considerations (Pluses):
- Experience leading other artists
- Shipped 1+ AAA title as a Texture / Material artist
- Experience using proprietary editors, software and tools
- Bachelor's degree in Art or a related field

The Legal Bits:
We offer competitive pay based on market standards plus a significant annual bonus structure. The base salary for this role is between $85,000 - $136,000, depending on skills and experience. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall throughout the range based on these factors.
